On Box Office Mojo, there are lists of many different films and it shows how much money each film has earned, from when it was first released in cinemas. You can look at all of these films through the different genres, of which there is a list of every single genre there is, from 3D all the way down to Zombie. Of course, for our research we are going to look at the Horror genre to see which films in that genre earned the most amount of money. The list below is from the "Horror - Period" Genre and as we can see, in this specific horror genre, The Conjuring earned the highest amount of money with a Lifetime Gross of $137,400,141.
I also looked at the Slasher sub-genre as well, to have a look and compare the different sub-genres and see which one earns the most. In this sub-genre, the first scream movie is number 1 with a total Lifetime Gross of $103,046,663. Comparing this to the sub-genre above, we can see that the conjuring has earned more money to date.
I thought taking a look at three different sub-genres would be a good idea because then we can compare more. The next sub-genre I looked at was Supernatural. The top movie for this sub-genre is The Sixth Sense with a Lifetime Gross of $239,506,292, when we compare this to the first sub-genre I looked at, we can see that this one has earned the most amount of money.
From all of this research it will be good to consider involving some sort of supernatural element to our opening title sequence. We can also look at these lists and think about whether we would like to create a storyline that has some link to one of these movies, for example the conjuring is a paranormal film, so we may want to include some paranormal element to our sequence.
