IMDb stands for Internet Movie Database, it is a website which has information on over 6,000 movies, television programmes and computer games. It was created in 1990 by a computer programmer named Col Needham.
It is a very useful website when you want to find out the top rated movies, as they have a list of the most watched films, and you can look at the top movies for each genre as well. This helps us because we can look at the horror genre and see what people enjoy in a horror movie just by seeing what people watch. |
For each movie, there is a cast list, a storyline, box office details, the run time, the release date and they even have a rating out of ten. For example, Crimson peak has a rating of seven out of ten. You can interact with this website by rating as well and watching trailers and clips from the different movies, you can search for whatever you want as they even have information on the different production companies and actors.
As you can see below, all of the horror movies have different sub-genres. This tells us that different people like different things and that whatever sub-genre we use in our final piece, we know some people will like it.
The Top-US-Grossing Horror Titles are:

On each of these movies you can leave a review, this tells us what people like about the movie and their own opinions, which we can use later to decide what we want to do with our movie. We can make our movie based on what people want from this research and also our Questionnaire research combined. Below you can see the top review from the movie World War Z. These reviews tell you all about the movie, why people love it, why people hate it and whether you should go and see it or not. This is the main reason, for me, why this website is so brilliant. It's because you can find out all you need to know about a movie before you go and watch it, so you know if its gory, if its romantic, how long it is, if other people recommend it. It stops you from going to watch a movie that you generally wouldn't enjoy.
