Casting is very important to a film in any genre. Specifically in horror, you need to cast the correct people for specific roles otherwise the audience will become confused as to who is playing which role. For example, you wouldn't want to have a small blonde girl as the killer because, realistically, they wouldn't be strong enough to overpower the victim, especially if that victim is a 6ft 4 male. You need to cast stronger, more stern looking people as the killer and smaller, weaker looking people as the victim.
We cast Corin Hughes as our main victim because we believe she has a very innocent look about her, also she is quite a good actress and we needed someone who could act in a variety of ways to play this character. We believe she looks like Megan Fox from Jennifer's Body. In Jennifer's Body, Fox plays a possessed girl and she murders quite a few boys in the movie, but there are some moments when her character seems vulnerable and that is what we wanted for our main character. Someone who can look scared and alone at one point, and then almost deranged at another.
We cast Allie-May Dadge as the younger version of our main character because she is a lot younger than Corin and we think they look alike in some ways. Also, she follows instructions well and is a very good actress at such a young age and we thought she would do a great job as the younger version of our victim. We believe she looks like Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne Freeling in Poltergeist. In Poltergeist, O'Rourke plays the youngest daughter in a family that lives in a suburban neighbourhood and is attacked by a large number of Poltergeists. She is the victim of these attacks and because of this and Allie-Mays resemblance to her, we thought Allie-May would be the perfect victim for our paranormal story.
We cast Leanna Wisby to play the mother because she is older than the rest of us so she was more eligible to play the mother and she is a good actress. Also, she is a mother so we thought that she would be the best person to play the role. We believe she has a resemblance to Jamie Lee Curtis, who played Laurie Strode in Halloween (1978). In this film, Curtis plays the heroin and she makes it all the way through to the end of the movie, with a few minor scrapes. This is one thing that she and Ms Wisby do not have in common, as Leanna dies within the first 10 seconds of our opening title sequence. However, what they do have in common is they are both victims in their roles and I think this similarity is enough to say that Leanna was the best for the job.
We cast our very own Chloe Leanne Knight as the therapist/presence because she is a good actress and she shares a resemblance with Daveigh Chase who played Samara Morgan from The Ring (especially with her hair over her face). We thought that if Chase could make the transformation to an unrecognisable entity, so could Chloe. In The Ring, Samara Morgan is a little girl that can burn terrible images into her victims minds, she makes a video that within 7 days of watching it, you will die. The video haunts its victims and we wanted the same concept to be put to our presence and its main victim, Corin.
We may have wanted to use Ewan Trehearne as our therapist/presence instead as a male killer may have added to the power over our female victim but we decided against it as we thought he has a more creepy guy from The Shining vibe. We wanted someone who would be more creepy in a ghostly way, rather than "I'm gonna come at you with a pickaxe" way.
