This particular shot shows a close up of the victims face. We wanted to use a shot like this because we wanted to show the victims fear, we also had the idea to push her out of the shot to make it seem like an invisible presence was trying to hurt her. We had to re-film this shot a few times due to the lighting being overexposed and the positioning of our actor in front of the camera.

This shot is a mid-shot of the victim as a child in bed with the presence looming over her. We wanted it to be a tracking shot down the side of the bed, rather than a pan because we wanted the character to be out of the shot when we see the presence at the end of the bed. We were tracking without a tripod because the bed was at an awkward height, so we had to re-film this one a few times as the shot turned out quite shaky.
|
This shot is a high angle, tracking of the victim running away from the presence. We used a high angle because we wanted to create the illusion of the presence being much bigger and more powerful than our victim. We had to re-film this shot because holding the tripod at such a high angle was quite difficult, and we wanted the shot to be as smooth as possible.

This shot is of the presence standing over the mother after it's stabbed her. We wanted this shot because we wanted to show the vulnerability of the mother as she is crawling away from her killer. We had to re-film this shot because the lighting was at an awkward angle because it was above the killers head and we needed to create a lot more blood to make the scene more realistic in the moment.
|
This scene is of the mother as she is dying and we wanted the knife to slide towards her and watch the killer walk away. We decided to just use the shot of the killer walk away in the end as the shot of the knife sliding didn't turn out too menacing and we wanted it to seem more sinister. We re-filmed a few times to make sure the walk and the shadows were right to create a sense of pride for our killer as she has succeeded in killing the mother of her main victim.

This particular scene is of our main character as she is doing her homework, we wanted to really emphasise the fact that this presence is always with her, so we thought that it taking over her technology would really put that point across. In the shot you can clearly see that Corin was typing out her name and we wanted it to seem realistic, so we re-filmed it and shortened it so that you can't really make out what she is writing in the first place and so that people focus on what comes up on the screen towards the end of the clip. Also, the first time we filmed, we weren't fast enough at switching the documents so it ended up not working and it took us a few times to get it right.

In these shots, the presence is standing over the edge of the bed. We wanted to use different shots like this to link to the shots of the younger version of our character in bed, to emphasise the fact that this presence really does never leave her. In the first shot, we had to re-film it a few times because we wanted to film it in the dark, but then the camera wouldn't focus. So we turned the bedside light on and this created the perfect amount of light so the camera would focus and so that it wasn't too light as well. The second shot is a pan from the end of the bed where the presence is sat, to the top of the bed where we see our main character sleeping. We wanted these clips to be fast and quite shocking in the OTS so we decided to just film the presence sat on the end of the bed for the second shot, so that the clips are chopped in faster.
We also had to fix the lighting in post-production because it wasn't dark enough in the room to make it seem like it was night-time. |
This shot is of our main character hiding in a wardrobe. We wanted to create a sense of our main character not being safe in her own home so we wanted to put the main lighting in the wardrobe with her and the a smaller light outside, to show when the shadow passes over the doors. We had to re-film this shot a few times because sometimes the doors were to far apart so it didn't seem like she was hiding and then the were to close together so we couldn't see her reactions to the shadow going passed.

This scene is of our victim, we wanted a scene that had a huge paranormal element in it that would be completely weird and show the audience that there is something else going on other than her being haunted. Maybe she's possessed? We wanted something to make it seem like she isn't quite right as well because of the effect this presence has had on her. We had to film her screaming in the corner and throw an assortment of toys at her, and then reverse it to make it seem like the objects were flying up from the floor. We used children's toys to show her innocence and we had to film it more than once as we were trying different shots and angles, also we tried using different objects as well.

This is the scene at the end, where the camera pans around to show Chloe's face and reveal that she is the presence. We wanted a big reveal at the end of our OTS so that it would appeal to people and make them want to watch the movie. It starts behind Chloe's shoulder and then pans round to the front of her face, but we had to film it a few times as we wanted it to start exactly where the rest of the therapy scene was. We had to manoeuvre the camera from the top of the tripod and then pan it around the chair Chloe was sat on to show her face and for her to deliver her line. This proved to be quite difficult and we had to refill it a few times to make sure the shot wasn't ridiculously shaky in the end. Also Chloe cracked under the pressure a few times and started laughing so we had to fix that problem too.
As well as that, we had to fix the temperature of the room in post-production because the lighting was quite orange/yellow in the office room. |
We used this shot in our final OTS instead of the above:

This is the scene were our younger version is playing by herself and the presence is stood in the background. We thought we could place our presence in the room with the child to make it seem quite close to her, but in the end we decided to put the presence outside so that we could see her through the window and in turn this would create a creepier feeling. Also, at this angle, the lighting was very dark and so you couldn't see the child's face or the presence very well. So we had to re-film this scene with the presence outside this time, and then the lighting, although dark in the final OTS, was much better and you can make out the presence easier.
Using this shot, combined with the filter to differentiate between the flashbacks and the therapy scene, the lighting looks a lot better in this shot overall. Using this layout for our characters as well, made the room less crammed together and made it easier to film. |
In this scene the younger version of our main character is bouncing on the trampoline with the presence stood in the background. We wanted a scene to show her innocence and doing normal childhood activities with the presence around her at all times. We had two scenes on the trampoline, one with her hiding and one with her bouncing. We thought we should add in a different camera angle and/or shot so we decided to film from the upstairs bedroom looking down on her bouncing on the trampoline and then we can use the one of her hiding her face as a close up. So we went upstairs and filmed out of the bedroom window, over the shoulder of the presence to give a mixture of angles.
Using this new angle made it easier for us to put into the OTS and it created a new way of our presence to 'haunt' or main character. Also it shows how the presence progresses throughout her life, from watching her from the window above, to frightening her with messages on her computer screen. |
