Having the correct font is crucial to an OTS. If you have a brilliant OTS and the font doesn't in any way match, it would ruin the whole thing. The reason why you need something that stands out is because the title is something that most people remember in a film. So you want a clear title, that most people can read easily so they will remember it.
We decided to go for a very simple font as we had a lot of trouble trying to make it fit into our sequence. We wanted to create something fancy and exaggerated to make our OTS seem professional but when we looked at the different fonts, sounds and animations, they didn't seem to go together the way we wanted them to. In the end we decided to use a simple, 2D font that would expand into the frame and a black, non-distracting background so it would make the title stand out a bit more:
We were influenced by some famous opening title sequences:
This included American Horror Story, this title is very simple with it being 2D and white on a black background. This is what we wanted for our title as it doesn't distract from the rest of the OTS.
Scream - This title is also very simple, with it also being white on a black background. However, this title turns red and expands into the screen which makes it more elaborate and this is where we got the idea to have the title expand into the frame.
