Location Choices
Our main location for our Opening Title Sequence was a large tudor style house. As a production company we decided that all our clips could be filmed in the same property as the house was so diverse. The multiple rooms, variations in style and vast land left us open to many choices for where to film our scenes. We decided to pick this location as it is a persons home and has a 'lived in' feel; the feeling that normal people live here we believed would add to our horror. The idea that this could happen to anyone will fester in the audiences mind, creating the element of fear and paranoia. The audience will see the location as a common house that could be down there road.
We had 8 sub-locations within the property including:
Bedroom 1:
We chose to use this bedroom due to our need for a basic style room with the feel of a child living in it. we flashed in different angles and shots of the presence in the room watching the main character sleep. We thought this room would be perfect as it was dark and held an eery feel. |
Bedroom 2:
We chose to use this bedroom as it contained lots of toys. It also provided the perfect space for the character to seem deranged and have the toys fly away from her. |
Bedroom 3:
We chose to use this bedroom because we needed a room that resembled a little girls room. The bed is covered in stuffed toys which shows how young she is in this scene. |
Kitchen:
We used the kitchen because we wanted to use a family oriented room to murder the mother in. We thought this would contrast what the room is normally used for, being together as a family.

Study:
We wanted to use the study for the therapy scene because we wanted a room that had a relaxed feeling to make it seem as though the character is safe when she really isn't. Also, the layout of the room allowed us to have the over the shoulder shot that we wanted to create the mystery behind the therapist.

Playroom:
We used the playroom because we needed a room that had a childlike feeling, as we wanted the scene to show her playing by herself. We originally wanted the presence to be inside the room when we filmed it, but after setting up the camera we realised that we could have the presence outside of the window to make it more mysterious.

Corridor:
We chose to use a corridor for one of our shots because we needed a narrow space, to give the illusion of the character being trapped in her own home. The corridor we used was quite narrow and turned off onto the next corridor and this helped us when filming the scene because it allowed her to run out of the shot and to make it seem as though she is running out of places to get away from the presence.

Garden:
We used the garden because we wanted to show her playing by herself again, we had the idea to use the trampoline and having the close up on her face. We wanted to show her acting like a child even though she doesn't really have a normal childhood.

Props
We used a few props to enhance our final product. The reason behind our props was to add to the overall affect of our OTS, and to the suspense, we can do this by the way we use them in the shots. We used props related to our genre and the theme of Horror to make it appropriate for our OTS, Apparition.
Knife:
We needed a weapon in the clip where the mother dies and we thought a knife would create the perfect amount of gore. We also knew that using a different weapon, such as a gun, wouldn't give the right effect for a horror sequence.

Therapy Cards:
We came up with the idea of the therapy cards when we were trying to come up with the opening and the story behind our OTS.We decided to put her in therapy because it will seem as though she is in a safe place, when really, she never is. We needed a way to get onto the topic of her mother and her childhood so we came up with the idea of her seeing her mother in the therapy cards and then basing the conversation on that.

Laptop:
We used that laptop because we wanted to make it feel relatable to our target audience as everything involves media these days. Also, keeping in mind the fact that everyone is using technology, the idea that it isn't safe to use your laptop or phone would make it seem more tense to people our age.

Toys in the Playroom:
We wanted a childish setting for our younger version to play in to emphasise the fact that she has always been haunted by this presence. We placed it in the centre of the room, infront of the window to make the image a lot darker to contrast the image of her playing and being normal. |
Toys in Reverse:
In this scene, we decided to through the toys into the corner and reverse it in the editing process, to make it seem as though the presence was moving them through the air. We decided to use toys instead of other household objects, 1) because we didn't want to break anything and 2) because we wanted the objects to represent her childhood and emphasise the fact that she has been alone her whole life. |
Toys in Bed:
This choice was more of an atmospheric decision, we thought keeping the toys on her bed would show her innocence. We decided to spread the toys out around her on the bed, so that you can see the large amount of toys before seeing the presence at the end of the bed. |
Trampoline:
We wanted to use the trampoline in the garden specifically because we wanted to show her trying to have a normal childhood even though she hasn't. We had two different shots of the trampoline, one over the shoulder of the presence from the window above and one close up on her face sat, scared on the trampoline. We added in extra sound effects of her laughing to make it seem as though she is trying to have a normal childhood.

Television:
We wanted the light from the TV to illuminate her face, and show her doing a normal child activity. We then put Chloe further back in the frame so that she was also lighted but the TV but so that she blended more into the background than anything else. We combined this shot with some sound effects of television static and peppa pig to add more of a childlike feel to the image.

Wardrobe:
We used the wardrobe as a hiding place, to show her being chased and having to hide in her own home. We wanted it to be quite a dark shot to give it a creepy atmosphere but we also needed to light it in some way so that we could make out what was happening. So we put the lighting in the wardrobe with her and then had minimal lighting outside, so that we could make out her facial expressions and emotions.
